Wikipedia defines setting as "the time, location, circumstances in which a story takes place...(that) provides the main backdrop and mood for a story or stories. Setting can be referred to as milieu to include a context (especially society) beyond the immediate surroundings."
In what setting(s) does A Clockwork Orange take place? How do the characters respond to this/these setting(s)? What is your opinion of this/these setting(s) and why?

The setting of the story is in a futuristic society in which crime rules the streets, you could call it a dystopia. The society affects all the people in it, making some of them cold blooded criminals, like Alex. My opinion about this society is that it is a really sick one and that all the violence in it will eventually lead it to its ruin. Annie Tveten 11th grade int.

The setting of this book is, as the name of the assignment says, futuristic. Is a place were there’s a lot of violence, death, raping, stealing. This violence is commited by “gangs” like Alex and its droogs. The police is really trying to stop all this violence and that’s why they start with the Ludovico Treatment, to decrease violence in the streets and to have more space in the prisons. This is a dystopian society. Mauricio Cattani

A Clockwork Orange takes place in a futuristic community in which Anthony Burgess shows the development of the world in a more violent and unsafe society. In the novel we can see that in the streets are different gangs that commit crimes daily and produce the fear and lack of safety that people have in that society. Alejandra Alvarez 11th

The setting of A Clockwork Orange occurs in the future in a society in where there is a lot of violence within the community mostly generated by youth groups like the one Alex led. There is a dystopia society I think mostly caused by the government. The government of the time tries to reduce all the violence by using the Ludovico treatment in people like Alex. The setting of the novel A Clockwork Orange is a society in the future, this society is filled with corruption and violence. The goverment has harsh ways of treating people, like the Ludivic tequinque which is a inhumane way of treating something as well as it is illegal to put someone throught that. I will not say is a dystopia society because even do it has crime and corruption, there are people who live peacefully. This setting has a important influence towards the characters because they are always affected by it, in the violence and crime and after they are affected by the corrupted goverment and society. I think that this will be an awful way of living because it is filled with pain and dishonesty. Aurelio Cordovez

In the novel a Clockwork Orange, the setting is futuristic. It is part of a society where people are violent, and out of control. The government used a technique to control this madness that was going on in the society. It was called the Ludovico Treatment, which was made with the objective of sttoping the violence, rapes and assaults made by gangs just like the one Alex was on. It is a dystopian society because for my opinion is very far from becoming an equal and just society. All the characters are influenced or affected by this because they have to live in a horible society and somo characters are part of the bad things of the society. Joaquin Arias

The setting of A Clockwork Orange is a futuristic place where crime is the norm. Alex and his gang live in this society and they live up to its expectations, they steal, kill and rape without any remorse or realization of it being wrong. It is definitely a dystopia since violence isn't any near perfect
